Indofin

FTC is all about finding and introducing new kinds of music to people. So we asked for something different, and we got it!
Indofin is a band with a mix of genres from ska, punk, reggae, and indie. They are a trio consisting of TJ Huerta on guitar and vocals, Albert Huang on bass, and Donny Mann on drums.

You can really pick out the different sounds and Indofin has managed to lace them together well. Indiebandstop.com says "The music is solid and pulls on all the different musical styles mentioned before to keep the entire album fresh. Each new song brings a new musical flavor into the mix".
They are a band from Austin, Texas that formed in 2002. They are releasing their third album, titled "2x Broken" to be available online on July 13.

We think this band has a lot of potential, so we have voted for them to win the Stir It Up Expo Battle Of The Beach Contest. The 5 winning bands will be sent to play a show in Jamacia in September.
You can vote once a day here and you don't have to sign up for anything. It will be much appreciated.
Listen to them at www.myspace.com/indofin and become a fan of them at www.facebook.com/indofin. Also follow them on Twitter at www.twitter.com/indofin !

6/5 Haste The Day

Haste the Day kicked off their "Attack of the Wolf King Tour" by headlining a show held on the downstairs stage of the Croc, FTC's favorite! When we first got there, we saw a girl getting carried out of the crowd by two guys and right then we knew that this show was gonna get rowdy! Upon a Burning Body, a metal hardcore band fro San Antonio, Texas came on first and sure did wake everyone up! They played songs such as 'The Devil's Advocate' from their new album titled "The World Is Ours". They also played their of Pantera's song, '5 Minutes Alone' which everybody enjoyed.
Mychildren Mybride came on right after and as expected, they were great! The crowd got very excited when they started and it showed! They played songs like 'On Wings of Integrity' and 'Headshot!' from their previous album, "Unbreakable" and new songs such as 'Crimson Grim' from their new album "Lost boy", which came out today!! Everyone should do MCMB and themselves a nice big favor by picking that up
Haste the Day came on last and the crowd went crazy. In our opinions, we found them a better live band over studio, which is a good thing. You can really tell how much they connected with their fans. They also played a nice variety from their older songs to newer. Speaking of newer songs, Haste the Day's new album titled the same a this tour "Attack of the Wolf King" comes out on June 29th. By the sounds of it, it's going to be reaaal good! We're sure everybody that came out to this show had an awesome time and you shouldn't miss out either, so be sure to check out these bands MySpace's and go get wild with them in a town near you!

SPIC

Recently, FTC has been introduced to a punk rock band called SPIC. That's short for Satanic Punk International Conspiracy. The band is hugely influenced by Green Day. They are a 3 piece consisting of guitarist and lead vocalist David Garcia, bassist-vocalist JD Garcia, and Ryan "Pinksy" Penland on drums.

We interviewed David this weekend and found him to be a pretty cool dude!

1. Where are you from? How does living there affect your songwriting?
-We are from Marfa, Texas. Living in such a small, tedious town with limited entertainment options and among a populace comprised of a melange of some beautiful, extraordinary people, some sweet people, some difficult people, some downright despicable people and most base of all, the gentrifying rapists and their fawning, servile obsequious schmoozers has influenced our debut record Day Drunk boundlessly. There are accounts and feelings of hating, being hated and ultimately just being bored in a small town (which has had the most impact on our record's content).

2. What's the greatest thing that's ever been said about your music?
- The greatest thing that has ever been said about our music is...it's actually quite difficult to pick just one thing...We each personally have some favorite comments, both negative and positive which we believe are a culmination of our efforts to be loved and hated at the same exact time

3. What are your main musical influences?
-Our influences are Green DaySex Pistols, Refused, Iggy and the Stooges, FugaziMotley CruePantera and AFI. Among others.

4. What's the song you're most proud of writing?
-Lyrically, I am proud of writing Excuse All The Blood, Hitsville Tx and The Tedium. Musicaly, I am proud of writing Excuse All The Blood, Histville Tx, The Tedium and Fate Notices Those Who Buy Chainsaws.

5.What's your favorite artist and album?
-Green Day, Green Day's Dookie

Something different

On Friday, the 28th I went to Cafe Metro in Wilkesbarre to see the band Endwell and had a revelation. I first need to say I love hardcore shows. They're always a good time for me. But I really need to say I want to see something different, and see it soon. With this music, comes boys in basketball shorts and "hardcore dancers". Yeah, it's fun, but every show is the same! The breakdowns are the same, the crowd is the same, and it's starting to get boring. FTC and everyone else would reallly like to see something new. Not meaning they should change the style of music, but the stage presence. Can't someone think outside the box? If anyone reads this who thinks their band, or a band they know of, is worthy of seeing and does something different with their time on stage, please let us know!

Gogol Bordello 5/1/10

Gogol Bordello. Okay let's just say if you like to have a good time... you should really go to one of his shows if you get a chance. FTC made our way to Philadelphia Saturday night to see him headline a show with Devatchka opening. Considering his style of music, "Gypsy Punk" we went there thinking it would be a laid back show. Well boy were we wrong. It was insane. BUT, not the "insane" we're used to. Instead of pits breaking out, instead of pushing, everyone was dancing. Everyone had a great time and we made a ton of friends. The people who came out were all real cool. All different kind of people and from who we talked to, we know there were people there who listened to all other different types of genres.

So there was a first band, who were good but only announced their name once before they went on. They played 3 or 4 songs and left the stage. There's not much we can say about them, because we didn't even catch their name!

Devatchka was the band who went on right before Gogol. They had a chick tuba player who was actually very cool. The band itself wasn't so much of a live presence, but on the left side of the stage performing Ariel silk which is where a girl is suspended by two pieces of fabric connecting the floor and ceiling. She was great and quite the show herself. The band played excellent background music and it's sad to say that's honestly all we got out of their performance but at least they know everyone went home knowing their name and knowing them as the band with the crazy acrobat!

Between Devatchka and Gogol Bordello we were so happy to hear them play Flogging Molly and Bad Religion songs while setting up! There was such a good amount of people who knew the songs and the energy never left the crowd even when bands weren't playing! They just danced along to whatever was coming out of the speakers! Gogol Bordello played for a good 2 hours, maybe more? It was so hard to keep track of time! The music was easy to get lost in. He put on an amazing show, interracting with the crowd the whole time and the whole band went nuts the whole set. They played until 11:40 then when the fans demanded an encore, came back out and played until 12:30! But it could have went on forever, everyone was enjoying themselves and just having a blast. Check them out you'll love it!! promise!

Job For A Cowboy 4/28/10

The night after the Brand New show, we made our way back to the Croc Rock to see Job For A Cowboy's headlining show with Whitechapel, Gaza and Cattle Decapitation. Gaza and Cattle Decapitation set the stage for Whitechapel to come on and get crazy. The pits broke out from the first band and grew with each song.

From left to right: the pit, Jonny Davy, Whitechapel

Jonny Davy of Job For A Cowboy is one of our favorite vocalists of the metal scene. Keep an eye out for our top 10!

Whitechapel really brought it when they played Posssession and Vicer Exciser. They also played their new song,  The Darkest Day Of Man, which is now featured on their Myspace, www.myspace.com/whitechapel
There are not even words to describe Job For A Cowboy's performance. They have such energy and Jonny Davy has a great personality, insulting people during the setlist. All in good fun of course. Catch them on the rest of this tour!

Brand New 4/27/10

On Tuesday, April 27th, FTC headed out to the Crocodile Rock in Allentown to see Brand New. They are a Long Island based band who have taken up a genre of their own. We had been looking forward to this show for months and had extremely high expectations.

The first band that played was The Robbers. The group's sound was similar to that of Brand New so they fit really well on the tour. The frontman had an endless amount of energy and  they played a lot of instrumentals.

P.O.S is a rap artist from Minneapolis. We weren't sure how it was going to turn out because of the difference in styles of music. Surprisingly, the crowd got really into it, which goes to show how many people have a wide range of interest when it comes to different music. By the end of the show, P.O.S gave us all permission to steal his songs off the internet, as he didn't brign any merch or CDs.  Go download his stuff and tell him what you think! www.myspace.com/POS
Brand New is so far one of the most FTC-approved live bands yet. They sounded perfect live, and did not disappoint one bit even considering how much we were expecting from them. They played a lot from their most recent album, Daisy, but also a good balance of songs from The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me, Deja Entendu, and even some from their first LP, Your Favorite Weapon. The crowd was the best. The show sold out in 45 minutes, so it was a room full of people who really appreciate Brand New ( hope someone gets that pun! )

The Used 4/20/10

On April 20th, The Used headlined a show at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA, with Chiodos sharing the stage. It was incredible how many people came out to see them.  Chiodos came on right before The Used and definitely did a good job getting the crowd ready. After the band parted ways with former frontman Craig Owens, a lot of  fans worried how Chiodos would sound on this tour. But yet the band is still doing amazing! They picked the perfect fit for their new vocalist, Brandon Bolmer. The band also played songs from their new album coming out this summer, and by the sounds of it, the CD will be awesome.

After Chiodos heated the whole place up, everyone was stoked for The Used to tear it apart. And as always, they never disappoint. Whoever comes to a Used show thinking it won't be crazy is so in for it. They have a huge fanbase that can get more wild than any other. The band played songs from their oldest to newest albums with the whole crowd knowing all the words to every one. We're more than sure that everybody who came out to this show had a great time.

Chiodos is currently touring with Bullet For My Valentine until the end of May and  The Used are playing a few shows in May and then some more in June. Be sure to check their dates and go to one of their shows, you will NOT regret it!

FISHBOWL

Fishbowl, a cover band fronted by a powerful singer, Dani Magill, played at Gracie's Vault in Lattimer on Friday night. The band was tight and covered multiple eras of rock music effortlessly. Dani's voice cut through the mix and the guitarist John Gatti made for a great rhythm for the night. The back beat was supplied by John Longo on drums and Jim Penkala on bass. Keyboard and some great vocals were also added by Mark Hydock.

Overall, they are have great potential. We look forward to the point in time when they start to find their own voice and start playing some original songs. We think this would take them over the top.
